Film Screening&Discussion

THINGS ARAB MEN SAY

Film Screening and Director Discussion
A Documentary by Nisreen Baker
This documentary paints a picture of Arab men that is vastly different from what we’re accustomed to. In this antidote to mainstream-media depictions of Arabs as terrorists and extremists, we get to meet Jay, Ghassan and their friends, who gather at Jamal’s Eden Barber Shop to discuss politics, religion and family over a cut and a shave. Often funny, sometimes sad, this engaging film documents the challenges these men face integrating into Canadian life while preserving their identity and culture.

Noah`s Pudding

IDI Edmonton volunteers will share Noah’s Pudding at St. Albert United Church on February 5, 2017.

Noah’s Pudding is a Turkish dessert that is made of a mixture consisting of grains, fresh and dried fruits and nuts. In Turkey it is made all the year and served especially during Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar.

Traditionally, it is made in large quantities to commemorate the ark’s landing and is distributed to friends, relatives, neighbors, colleagues, classmates, among others, without regard to the recipient’s religion or belief system as an offering of peace and love.

Abraham in Three Faiths: Lessons from His Life

“World Interfaith Harmony Week celebrates the principles of tolerance and respect for the other that are deeply rooted in the world’s major religions. The observance is also a summons to solidarity in the face of those who spread misunderstanding and mistrust.”

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
Message for World Interfaith Harmony Week

World Interfaith Harmony Week is a celebration to promote interreligious and intercultural dialogue, understanding and cooperation among the people of different faiths and religions. It is an international week (February 1-7) currently observed by United Nations.

As IDI Edmonton, we would like to contribute to this international platform from Edmonton. In this regard, we are organizing an interfaith panel discussion on Abraham, a common personality in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Three expert panelists from these religions will discuss the messages from his life.

The event will be held on February 1st 2017 (Wednesday, 6:30 pm) in Nova Chateau Hotel. Light refreshments will be served. Seats are limited.
